DIGITAL MEDIA SENIOR REPORTER & WRITER

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

The Digital Media Senior Reporter is a full-time position that is tasked with providing relevant and timely marketplace intelligence for the global investment community. Interacting with OTR Global’s clients to discuss research findings is another key part of the role, including both, phone and in-person meetings.

Individual in this role is directly responsible for generating research, conducting interviews with industry sources, analyzing and interpreting gathered information, compiling research reports and presenting findings. The ideal candidate will possess extensive industry contacts beyond public relations spanning digital media universe, including display, video, mobile, social, programmatic and more, and demonstrate the ability to speak to ad agency executives and decision makers, media buyers, advertisers, and other industry contacts about business trends, as well as develop new source relationships.

Individual in this role will work together with DOR, OTR’s editorial team, and Research Operations team to prepare written research for publishing. Strong organizational and analytical skills, ability to take ownership along with idea generation are important attributes for an individual in this role .

PROFESSIONAL AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES:

  • 5+ years of prior digital media research experience; strong background in the media industry; Solid understanding of the financial industry and investment basics.
  • Extensive established network of media industry contacts, ability to network and proven good     track record of developing and maintaining relationships with key industry sources
  • Exceptional analytical skills, attention to detail, creative problem solving.
  • Solid communication skills are a must, specifically the ability to distill and articulate elaborate   research findings with brevity, clarity and simplicity.
  • The candidate must be a fast learner; ability to multi-task is critical.
  • Embrace flexibility and constant change.
  • Able to meet deadlines and maintain a flexible schedule in order to work with teams and clients in different world time zones.

FULL-TIME CONSUMER RETAIL CHINA RESEARCHER

THE ROLE

The Consumer Retail Researcher will work closely with Editor, China Consumer, to provide relevant and timely marketplace intelligence for the global investment community by interviewing industry sources. This person will develop and maintain relationships with industry sources to generate timely in-depth interviews spanning retail, restaurants and consumer products topics in China. Effective source development and interviewing skills are key aspects of the role. The individual in this role will also support the Editor, China Consumer, to prepare and coordinate projects in the field, work closely with other members of the Consumer Retail China team and OTR's global Consumer Retail team in other regions, as appropriate. Effective communication skills is another key aspect of the role. The Consumer Retail Researcher, China reports to Editor, China Consumer.

PROFESSIONAL AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES

  • Thorough understanding of the China market with a strong background in one or more of the following areas: ecommerce, apparel and footwear, retail wholesale, consumer products and/or restaurants industry.
  • Extensive industry network of contacts in China, beyond public relations and investor relations; ability to network and successfully develop new sources is key
  • Minimum of 2-3 years experience in ecommerce, retail, restaurants and/or consumer products; consulting or market research firm experience, investigative journalism experience a plus
  • Ability to obtain in-depth interviews and accurately capture detailed notes.
  • Ability to analyze and identify essential findings; spot trends, strategize and think broadly forward;
  • Strong organizational skills; an ideal candidate is a quick learner and able to multitask
  • Strong and positive communication skills

PART TIME RESEARCHER: CHINA ONLINE MEDIA & ONLINE ADVERTISING 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

The Media Researcher (based in Shanghai, Guangzhou, or Chengdu) will work closely with the China Media Senior Researcher to provide relevant and timely marketplace intelligence for the global investment community. The ideal candidate will possess extensive industry contacts and demonstrate the ability to develop new relationships with key industry contacts who can speak to strategic trends in the media advertising industry with an emphasis on online advertising, media strategy, and mobile internet. Applicants must be able to speak, interview, write and read Chinese with a high level of fluency. The Media Researcher reports to the China Media Senior Researcher.

PROFESSIONAL AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES:

  • Bachelor degree.
  • Experience working in or reporting on the media advertising with an emphasis on online advertising; prior experience at large local media advertising agencies in China a plus
  • Strong media background and deep knowledge of internet and mobile internet
  • Ideal candidate has an extensive established network of media buyers contacts
  • Ability to network and successfully develop new sources; ability to reengage previously developed sources on a recurring basis
  • Ability to obtain in-depth interviews and accurately capture detailed notes

INTERN - INVESTMENT RESEARCH 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

The Spring 2018 undergraduate intern will work on a variety of business related and marketing projects with the CEO and other senior management.  This role allows for great autonomy, flexibility, and hands on learning.  The intern will have exposure to the financial services industry and the entrepreneurship of a high growth business within a highly competitive market.  Paid internship and interns must be able to prove they are able to be legally employed. The internship is in Purchase, NY. $11/hour.

PROFESSIONAL AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES:

  • Bachelor degree.
  • History of success and hard work exemplified in previous work experience, academics, athletics, or other activities
  • Strong MS Office skills with emphasis on PowerPoint and Excel
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Strong Internet research ability
  • Strong writing and verbal skills
  • Applicant must be enrolled, full time in college and must have finished freshman year.
  • Applicants must be able work for 10-12 consecutive weeks for 40 hours per week
  • Students will be responsible for their own housing and transportation during the internship
